In the presence of Mr. Alaa Abdul Sattar Al-Ani, representative of the Rayahin Agricultural Development Organization, a coordination meeting was held for the "Strengthening Community Participation and the Relationship between Citizens and Local Governments" project, implemented by Oxfam in partnership with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The meeting took place in the meeting hall of the Ramadi District Governor's office.
The meeting was attended by representatives of several local organizations in Anbar Governorate. The project's objectives were reviewed, particularly those related to strengthening community participation in planning local development priorities and improving accountability mechanisms and responsiveness to citizens' complaints regarding basic services affected by climate change.
The meeting addressed the current state of community participation and accountability mechanisms in the governorate, highlighting key challenges and opportunities. Participants also shared their input and suggestions on how to develop mechanisms for engaging the local community and enhancing communication between citizens and local governments.
Opportunities for cooperation and coordination among participating organizations during the project's implementation phases were also discussed, aiming to facilitate the exchange of expertise and effectively achieve the project's objectives. During his participation, the representative of the Rayahin Agricultural Development Organization emphasized the importance of concerted efforts among stakeholders to enhance collaborative work, particularly in light of the environmental and climatic challenges impacting services in the governorate. He noted the organization's readiness to support initiatives that contribute to improving responsiveness to citizens' needs.
The meeting concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at developing mechanisms for joint action and strengthening the community's role in local decision-making.
